Public services and Management: designs, issues and implications for local governance

The design of an efficient governance for the provision of major public services like water supply, transportation, waste disposal, and beyond education, research and health... is of a tantamount importance nowadays in view of the always stronger tendency to delegate those services to the private sector both in developed and developing countries. Thinking about those issues is not only high on the agenda of practitioners and policy-makers but it has also generated a new stream of both theoretical and empirical research which redefines our understanding of the limits between the public and the private spheres.

The Institute brought together international experts to discuss this subject at its 2nd conference, organised with French IDEI.
