Biography

Dr Ramphele is a former World Bank Managing Director, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Town and a non-executive director of Anglo American Corporation of South Africa between 1992 and 1996.

She played a key role in the Black Consciousness Movement in South Africa and has published a wide range of books and articles on the themes of education, health and social development.

She is currently the Chair of Circle Capital Ventures, a Black Economic Empowerment company that focuses on unleashing the fortune at the margins of the socio-economic circle.

She holds an MBChB, a BComm and a PhD in Social Anthropology.
