Setting the Context: 2050
October 25, 2007
Around the world, countries and corporations are pursuing a wide range of strategies to begin reducing greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining or strengthening economic growth.
To stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations and prevent dangerous climate disruptions, however, will require a 60% to 80% reduction in global emissions by 2050.
Achieving this goal will involve sweeping technological advances driven by effective government policies.
The opening plenary presented an overview of the technology and policy contexts today, setting the stage for a deeper exploration of key sectors and challenges over the course of the conference.
