Olivier Godard
Olivier Godard was born in 1949 and is a graduate from the ESSEC (Business School) and Doctor in economics. He is Research Director at the CNRS (National Centre of Scientific Research) and professor at the Ecole Polytechnique de Paris.
Since the beginning of his career as professional researcher in 1973 within the Centre international de recherche sur l'environnement et le développement/CIRED [International research centre on the environment and development] at the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales/EHESS [School of advanced studies in social sciences], the main part of his work involves the environment and sustainable development approached from the economic and social science angle. Having joined the Econometrics laboratory of the Ecole Polytechnique de Paris in 1998, he developed his work on different themes: the precautionary principle and decision in a controversial universe; tradable emissions permits systems to control atmospheric pollution (greenhouse effect), the organisation of the scientific expertise on socially controversial themes (climatic change, BSE crisis), the economic motives and the legitimacy of sustainable development.
Olivier Godard is a member of Comepra, the Ethical and Precaution Committee of INRA [French National Institute for Agricultural Research] and IFREMER [French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea]. He is also a member of the Scientific Council and the Board of Directors of the Institut du Développement durable et des Relations internationales (IDDRI) [Institute of Sustainable Development and International Relations] and a member of the Scientific Council of the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie.
Most recent publication:
Traité des nouveaux risques - Précaution, crise, assurance, with C. Henry, P. Lagadec and E. Michel Kerjan, Paris, Gallimard, coll. "Folio - Actuel" No. 100, 2002.
Ignace Adant
Ignace Adant was born in 1969 and holds a Master's degree in economics from FUNDP in Namur [Notre Dame de la Paix University Faculties]. He was researcher at the Fondation universitaire luxembourgeoise, then independent researcher, on the themes of the role of ambiguity in coordination, the interface between natural risks and the process of social exclusion and on the organisation of material recycling systems. He is currently a PhD student at the Econometrics laboratory of the Ecole Polytechnique. Managed by Olivier Godard, his research develops in two directions. The first involves the organisation of the strategic transfer of information in relations centred around the exchange of goods of uncertain quality. The second concerns the links between economic contestability and social contestability of companies. This research relies on various empirical fields and notably the organisation of material recycling systems and the resort to risk capital in the technological innovation processes.
