Urban sprawl and its possible impacts on the activities of Veolia Environnement

Urban sprawl, which can be observed on all continents, is not a new phenomenon. With its varying forms, which depend on geographic, social and societal factors, this type of city growth displays some aspects that seem to be universal.
Veolia Environnement is an international group which offers its services within the urban environment and must therefore adapt them to the particular situation of each city. As this urban environment is continuously evolving, it is interesting to look at whether the services are adequate for these new situations.
Following a quantitative analysis of urban sprawl phenomenon in France in recent years, and a qualitative analysis of the phenomenon in other agglomerations, this document endeavours to exploring the way forward, in order to promote the development of new services adapted to these new ways of life.
