Report n°6: Urban Public Transport

Exclusive right-of-way, central to performance

Among the large number of projects undertaken to increase the efficiency and popularity of urban public transport, such as improved passenger information, fares policies, rolling stock and stations, experience has shown that the creation of exclusive rights-of-way is the most powerful lever to attract new clients or build up sustainable client loyalty among some of those who are more or less "captive" to public transport. Young urban dwellers in their great majority will one day be able to buy a vehicle of their own and increased prosperity allows some of the "captives" for economic reasons to "graduate" to private cars.
