Gary Guzy

Gary Guzy is the Emerging Environmental Risk Practice Leader at Marsh. He develops new solutions for clients in responding to emerging environmental risks and trends, spearheading Marsh's and MMC's global efforts in the climate change arena. This includes serving as Marsh's chief strategist on sustainability issues and its spokesperson to the media and at conferences, as well as liaison to partner organizations such as the World Economic Forum, Carbon Disclosure Project, Pew Center, Global Roundtable on Climate Change, and others on sustainability issues. Gary is based in Marsh's Washington, D. C. office.
Gary has extensive experience in the environmental field. He was appointed by President Clinton and confirmed by the U. S. Senate to serve as the General Counsel of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from 1998 to 2001. In that role, he served as EPA's chief legal officer and as a member of its senior management team working with the Administrator to establish and carry out strategic regulatory, legislative, and public relations goals. He was known for bringing together disparate groups to resolve major environmental conflicts.
He also served as Counselor to the Administrator at EPA and as its Deputy General Counsel, as well as a Senior Attorney at the U. S. Department of Justice, where he handled major environmental litigation from the Everglades to Alaska. Gary practiced environmental law in the private sector as a partner with the law firm of Foley Hoag LLP, served as a consultant to the U. S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and has been a visiting scholar at the Environmental Law Institute. Gary began his legal career as a Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Elbert P. Tuttle, Senior Judge of the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta. frequently speaks on emerging environmental issues at major conferences and law schools major conferences, and with media and has testified as an environmental expert before Congress.
