Donald - Lemmen

Don Lemmen has spent the last ten years increasing understanding and awareness of climate change adaptation in Canada and internationally. He manages the science activities of the Government of Canada's Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Program, which has contributed significantly to the growth of adaptation research in Canada through funding of more than 130 research projects since 2001.

Dr. Lemmen is the lead scientific editor of Canada's national assessment of climate change impacts and adaptation, and lead author of the assessment Synthesis Report. This initiative has involved more than 80 authors from across the country, and will be completed in November 2007.

Dr. Lemmen has been involved in a wide range Canadian initiatives dealing with climate change adaptation, working with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Canadian Council of Professional Engineers, Canadian Standards Association, and the Conference Board of Canada. He is a member of advisory or research committees of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy, the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences, ArcticNet, and the International Polar Year.

Don is also a negotiator and technical expert on adaptation as part of Canadian delegations to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He was heavily involved in establishment of the UNFCCC's Nairobi Work Program, developed to assist countries in making informed decisions on practical adaptation on a sound, scientific, technical and socio-economic basis.
