In October 2019, France was condemned by Europe for failing to comply with air quality limit values for nitrogen dioxide (NO2). The European Court of Justice called for a rapid and effective action plan to drastically reduce emissions of this pollutant and protect French citizens. Since then, the health crisis we are experiencing has further reinforced the importance of air quality issues. While confinement has led to a marked improvement in the concentrations of certain pollutants in many cities around the world, several scientific studies have shown a correlation between air pollution and increased risks of virus-related mortality. Moreover, the Covid-19 crisis is also a reminder of the challenges of controlling air quality inside buildings, where we spend most of our time.

When it comes to air quality, we face many questions: What are the links between air pollution and the spread of the virus? Will there be a longterm positive impact of confinement on air quality? Why is the measurement of air quality, both outside and inside buildings, crucial?
