Congratulations to Philippe Aghion, Nobel Prize in Economics in 2025

M. Philippe Aghion

The Veolia Institute extends its warmest congratulations to Philippe Aghion, member of the Foresight Committee, who was awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Economics on October 13th, jointly with Joel Mokyr and Peter Howitt. This prestigious award recognizes his pioneering research on innovation-driven economic growth, and more specifically his work on creative destruction. His research has greatly enriched our understanding of the drivers of growth and innovation.

Since joining the Foresight Committee in 2024, Philippe Aghion has provided valuable contributions to the Institute's activities. In April 2024, at a Veolia Institute Talk, he presented the report of the Artificial Intelligence Commission, which he co-chaired; this report had just been submitted to the French President. Philippe Aghion's insightful analyses also enriched the discussions at the Foresight Committee meeting in October of the same year, which focused on the hopes and fears surrounding Artificial Intelligence.

Philippe Aghion will also contribute to the Veolia Institute's next publication, in collaboration with Microsoft, which will focus on the role of AI for environmental services.

His expertise and ability to anticipate key economic and technological developments are major assets for the Veolia Institute in its mission to reflect on and shed light on the challenges of tomorrow.
