Shedding Light on the Oceans and Climate
The Veolia Institute had the privilege of welcoming Françoise Gaill, biologist, oceanographer, and expert in deep-sea ecosystems, for a dedicated discussion on the challenges facing our oceans and their pivotal role in regulating the climate.
During her presentation, Françoise Gaill highlighted the increasing pressures on marine environments, from the exploitation of deep-sea resources to the impacts of climate change, and explored their direct consequences for biodiversity and the balance of life on Earth. She also drew attention to the unique and often overlooked richness of deep-sea ecosystems—an invaluable heritage essential for our shared future.
Françoise Gaill concluded by calling for collective action to protect this vital natural heritage, emphasizing the need to combine scientific research, tangible initiatives, and public policy, all within a framework of international cooperation.
