  18 June 2012
  Rio de Janeiro - Brazil
Workshop: Poverty and access to basic services

Side-event n°1 : Innovative field actions as leverage for change

The Veolia Institute's partners for this side-event workshop were Civicus, the global alliance of the civil society organizations and the European confederation of Relief and Development NGOs.

The staging of an official side-event was made possible by the official accreditation given to the Veolia Institute by the General assembly of the United Nations in May 2012.
In its capacity as a think-tank, the Institute is now recognized as a member of the “civil society” network of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).

Side-event n°2 : UNEP Session, City of Gwangju, ICLEI

The Institute took part in this session – organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the City of Gwangju, and ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability), on the fringes of Rio+20 – to present and showcase the results of the study conducted with UNEP on the measurement of urban environmental performance, in the presence of David Miller (former Mayor of Toronto and Chair of the C40) and the Mayor of Gwangju.
